ClearSpeed Technology Releases Next Generation Software

Enhanced performance and functions enable breakthrough performance for real-world applications

Bristol, UK – March 19, 2008 – ClearSpeed Technology (LSE:CSD), the world leader in parallel processing solutions, today announced the launch of it’s Release 3.0 software. The new release introduces multiple feature and performance enhancements. This release represents the most significant development yet in the company’s strategy of continually increasing the ease-of-use of its programming environment for developers; specifically those seeking the benefits of ClearSpeed’s breakthrough performance for real-world applications in the embedded and High Performance Computing (HPC) markets.

The Release 3.0 software is offered in a base package (available for download free of charge) and a developer package (which requires a license), both of which include improvements from the previous software release and are designed to work with ClearSpeed’s CSX600 chip-based products.  The base package includes the runtime libraries, driver, and an extended CSXL acceleration library which implements additional BLAS and LAPACK functions.  The developer package includes a more robust optimizing compiler, improved use of on-chip memory and new functions within the Vector Math Library and Random Number Generator Library. This software release includes ease-of-use improvements to the programming model incorporating operator overloading to simplify the use of vector data types.

The new ClearSpeed Visual Profiler toolset provides developers insight at every level of the system, including the interactions between multiple host processors and one or more ClearSpeed Advance accelerator cards. By delivering a consistent visual representation across the entire system, it provides the best possible environment in which to develop code that will perform optimally in today’s multi-core and heterogeneous accelerated systems.  The CSX600 cycle-accurate simulator, a new feature of Release 3.0, can be used in conjunction with the ClearSpeed Visual Profiler to provide even more detailed profiling information than was previously possible.

“The level of maturity and robustness of our SDK is unmatched,” said Russell David, ClearSpeed vice president of Engineering. “With Release 3.0 there are endless possibilities for improving the time to solution for real-world problems.”
Release 3.0 software also includes support for a wide range of operating systems including Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 5 64-bit, SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 64-bit, Microsoft™ Windows™ Server 2003 64-bit, and Microsoft Windows Computer Cluster Server 2003.

Testing of Release 3.0 software has in many cases achieved more than 20 percent performance improvements for scientific applications such as Amber and Bude, and financial applications such as European Option Pricing from what was previously attainable using ClearSpeed’s Release 2.51 software.

Since being the first to recognize the need for extreme performance coupled with high energy-efficiency, ClearSpeed has led the way with its proven product offerings, strong patent portfolio and continuous product innovations. While others have tried to adapt their special-purpose technologies, only ClearSpeed uniquely designs and develops technology for maximizing compute density from embedded designs through to HPC data centers.
