Why Heterogeneous Acceleration?

Most of us already use several types of heterogeneous acceleration every day. The reason is that application-specific procecssors typically deliver better performance per watt, performance per mm2 and performance per dollar. They often deliver higher absolute performance and do it in smaller form factors than the general-purpose processors that they replace.

ClearSpeed's processors are designed for power efficiency, providing the world's highest performance/watt. However, this is not because power efficiency is important by itself, but instead because it provides the foundation for the following benefits:

Read more about the value of ClearSpeed acceleration...

Today there are several types of heterogeneous acceleration available to HPC users including Cell and GPUs, but only ClearSpeed's CSX family has been designed specifically for HPC acceleration. Only ClearSpeed significantly addresses the needs of the HPC community for reliability, smaller form factor and lower power consumption. This enables the next generation of petascale systems to be delivered economically and with the performance, precision and reliability that HPC users require.

ClearSpeed's processors are designed to provide:

To deliver these benefits, ClearSpeed's architecture has been designed from the outset to meet these needs. Rather than being developed for an alternative market, such as games, and then brought across to computing.
