Automotive Driver Assistance Systems

As the sophistication of driver assistance and collision avoidance systems increases, so does the required processing bandwidth. Advanced collision avoidance systems can be radar or optical based, both need high performance compute capability with very low power consumption at a low unit cost.

ClearSpeed provides low cost processing solutions specifically designed to meet the need of this market in the form of IP that integrates processor units with memory, interfacing, control, and optionally ADCs. This provides a flexible, programmable solution that gives our partners the ability to develop software defined products from a common platform, reducing development cost and time-to-market, whilst delivering the performance and power efficiency required.

Example Configuration:
  • Multi-channel, 14 bit ADC, 25 Ms/s
  • Optimized FFT processing elements capable of more than 25 Gops/sec
  • Hardware 'corner turn' to improve FFT performance
  • Large integrated RAM per processing element
  • Approx 1 Watt power consumption
  • Less than $20 per chip
  • CAN, SPI, GPIO, Ethernet and USB interfaces

    Example Automotive Processor Configuration

Vehicle manufacturers are using one or more digital signal processors to provide advanced driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. These features are currently only available on high end vehicle models but will become available on main stream models over the next few years.

ClearSpeed has the ideal processor architecture and intellectual property for use in automotive driver assistance applications. Find out how ClearSpeed's CSX700 processor can be used today to explore software defined automotive driver assistance systems.
